« Authentique rebétiko de la Grèce… Le trio Mystiki Kompania nous fait connaître la beauté du rebétiko, cette forme de musique développée dans les années 1900 au port du Pirée, dans la banlieue pauvre et désaffectée d’Athènes entre autres. Ce sera l’occasion également d’entendre le son du bouzouki, l’instrument national grec.»
A rich blend of multiple influences, Rebetiko features not only music from Greece, Turkey and Egypt, but also Jewish and Balkan music. The chief stimulus for Mystiki Kompania was the unfailing beauty and authenticity of rebetiko, a sort of Greek blues that appeared in the early 20th century in prisons and poor neighbourhoods.
With: Athanasios Sklavis (bouzouki and vocals), Vangellis Destounis (baglama and vocals) and George Papafilys (guitar, accordion and vocals).
